For the uninitiated

All rune, all the time

For those whose pre-teens can't stop talking about runescape, a parents guide:

No habla technologese?

I went to a talk recently on kids and the internet, given by a great organization called IKeepSafe.org in Arlington,Va. When it comes to facility with computers and understanding the internet, this group uses a great analogy. Kids, who have never known life without computers are native speakers, while Mom and Dad are more like immigrants having to learn a new language. I thought this was a pretty apt description given the gap between techguy387 and yours truly when it comes to navigating the online world. With my journalist background, I'm pretty good at doing research (i.e. looking up the word in a dictionary), but nowhere near as inventive with the technology or as quick at picking up the slang as my 11-year-old. And I know some of it's not that difficult. This weekend I attended a workshop given by Sree Sreevinsan and couldn't believe how simple it was to start this blog.

That said, I'm still struggling. For those of you more technologically adept, he's got a great site btw.

Hi

Hi everyone.

Blog up and crawling!

I'm the writer with a computer problem. My sidekick, tech_guy387 will help me out. And hopefully those of you who are similarly impaired.
